Plans are underway for the PEI Marathon Weekend scheduled for October 15th -17th, 2021. All planning will be in compliance with PEI’s Chief Public Health Office. With this in mind, the PEI Marathon plan is focused around the five areas of infection risk mitigation noted below:

  • Physical distancing
  • Touch point minimization & participant self reliance
  • Increased sanitization
  • Updated communication of safety plans
  • Virtual opportunities

With these principles in mind we have made several changes to the PEI Marathon weekend for the health and safety of all. We ask that you review the information below and consider them before registering.

The following services will not be offered during the 2021 PEI Marathon weekend due to the pandemic:

  • Expo
  • Bag storage for participants
  • Awards ceremony
  • Participant massages
  • Pace Bunnies

Pre-Race:

  • Indoor Kit Pick Up will follow provincial guidelines – social distancing, mask wearing, and capacity limits
  • Curb side Kit Pick Up will be introduced to reduce the interaction between staff and participants

Race Day:

  • Events will be broken into waves with separate start times to avoid congestion at the start and finish areas
  • Each wave will not exceed the provincial gathering limits

Start Area:

  • Participants and volunteers will be required to physical distance (6ft/2m) at race start
  • Masks will be required in the start area as additional precaution

On Route:

  • Participants will be required to physically distance at all times while on course.
  • Water stops will be available, however, they will be self serve. Participants are asked to bring their own hydration

Finish Area:

  • Upon crossing the finish line, participants will be required to put their mask on
  • Water as well prepackaged nutrition for all distances will be available at the finish line

Other things participants can expect to see:

  • Hand sanitizer stations – placed at high touch point areas such as portable washrooms, and kit pick up
  • Increased communication leading up to Marathon weekend with COVID-19 safety protocols and what participants need to know for kit pick up and race day

Please note that the above plan is a work in progress and any necessary changes required by the CPHO prior to event weekend will be put in place at that time and details will be posted.
